Xu Beihong (1895-1953), originally named Xu Shoukang, was born in Yixing, Jiangsu. Best known for his traditional ink paintings of horses, birds, lions, his art was closely associated with Realism. His art emphasizes the revolution of Chinese art through the incorporation of techniques from the West. He focuses on shape, anatomy, light and shadow. His art accurately depicts human’s bone structures, and presents the spirit of works. He played an important role in Chinese art field during that time.
