Brice Marden is an American artist. Born in 1938 in New York, He received his BFA from Boston University in 1961 and his MFA from Yale University’s School of Art and Architecture in 1963. Contributing to the emerging aesthetic of Minimalism, Marden made his first monochromatic paintings in 1964. His later works are visually different to his previous monochromatic works. Combining the Abstract Expressionism with the Minimalism, Marden achieved a balance between emotional intensity and formal simplicity. Conjuring ancient architecture and American modernism, the spiritual and material, Elements III is part of Brice Marden’s celebrated eponymous series created between 1981 and 1984.
