Lee Ufan (Korean, b. 1936)
Lee Ufan was born in Haman County, South Korea in 1936. He attended the College of Fine Arts at Seoul National University before emigrating to Japan in 1956. There, he obtained a degree in philosophy at Tokyo’s Nihon University in 1961. Lee is best known as one of the leading members of the Mono-ha movement. He is also a representative member of Dansaekhwa (“monochrome painting”). Lee divides his time between Japan and France.
