Date :  2016.12.26

Venue:       Long Museum(West Bund)River-view Classroom

Speaker:     Pan Li

A century after the Meiji Restoration (1868), how did Japanese artists come to cast off the influences of Western modernism? How did they begin to promote their own brand of Japanese modernism and become the center of attention in the Japanese world of art?

At the turn of the 1960s and 1970s, an important artistic movement known as "Mono-ha" emerged in Japan. This not only held a major impact on Japanese modern art but also attracted widespread international attention.

In this seminar, the Long Classroom will focus on the phenomenon of "Mono-ha," guiding participants through the background, representative artists, and concept behind this movement as well as its influence on Japanese modern art.
