Date :  Dec 13, 2014

Organizer:   AIVA International Academy of Visual Arts

Venue:        Multi-functional Hall, 2F, Long Museum (West Bund)

Speaker:     Wang Ke zhen

The lecturer Wang Kezhen studied jewelry, silverware and related metal crafts at the Birmingham Jewellery Institute in the United Kingdom from 2003 to 2005. During his studies, he was obsessed with the hammering sound of hand-forged silverware, so he then specialized in forging technology with a slight success.

In 2005, Wang Kezhen returned to China and started to establish a metal studio in Nanjing University of the Arts. The basic construction was completed in 2008. The initial idea was very simple. He wanted to re-beat that sonorous hammer sound in China and let more people understand it. From building a studio to teaching students various techniques of metal crafting with a hammer, he transformed from a craftsman to a teacher. Wang Kezhen not only passed in traditional foreign handcraft skills, but also brought contemporary art and design concepts into his studio. He hopes that this free and fresh type of art will take root and grow in China.

In the lecture, Wang Kezhen will introduce his mental journey from building a studio to teaching courses, and will share his vigorous and energetic studio in the art academy with the audiences.
