Wu Hufan (1894-1968) had an original name called Yiyan, his zi (designated name) was Yujun, then changed his name to Mingwan, his zi to Dongzhuang. Originally born in Suzhou in the Jiangsu province. He was known for his paintings of bamboo and landscapes. Wu delve into landscape coloring, and his innovative colours brought a sense of modernity into traditional Chinese painting. He was renowned as “Wu in the south and Pu in the north(南吴北溥)” and a member of the “Three Wus and One Feng”, with the other three being Wu Daiqiu, Wu Zishen, and Feng Chaoran.
