The Special Exhibition of Epigraphy

2016.1.17-2016.2.20
Long Museum  West Bund

Organizer: Haishang Press

Those who take Epigraphy as the research goal and have outstanding academic achievements in this field are called the Epigraphers. Including those who use Epigraphy writing as the carrier of artistic creation and are rich in artistic achievements.

The study of Epigraphy began in the Song dynasty. Ouyang Xiu, Xue Shanggong, Zhao Mingcheng and others expressed their opinions on the academic level based on historical documents. For the first time, they built a magnificent Epigraphy discipline with the rise of groups. In the history of Chinese civilization, cultural concepts such as Epigraphy began to influence the existence and development of many cultures and arts in later generations. During the Qianjia period of the Qing Dynasty, scholars in Epigraphy showed unprecedented wisdom and enthusiasm, and pushed the study of Epigraphy to the most prosperous development period since the creation of the discipline of Epigraphy in the Song Dynasty. Scholars Wang Chang, Ruan Yuan, Zhang Tingji, Chen Jieqi, Pan Zuyin, and Wu Dazheng study and explain books with new unearthed materials, new academic ideas, new research perspectives, new practical methods, new display methods, new artistic creations.

The "The Special Exhibition of Epigraphy" jointly organized by Xinmin Evening News, Haishang Press and Long Art Museum brings together many calligraphy, paintings, seal carvings, inscriptions and rubbings created by Epigraphers from Ming and Qing to contemporary times. We believe that the variety of art and the richness of works presented in this special exhibition is the best inheritance of the former Xiling sages in 1924. The art of Epigraphy calligraphy is the core component of the Shanghai style art. Carrying forward the traditional Epigraphy calligraphy and painting art has important practical significance for the inheritance, development, exploration and innovation of contemporary calligraphy, painting and seal cutting art.

We hope this exhibition can pay tribute to the Epigraphers who have worked hard to practice traditional culture and the art of Epigraphy painting and calligraphy over the past century!
